Bus to the Beaches Outside Valencia

For all the beaches on the southern coast by Valencia you take the same mythical YELLOW BUS. Mythical because it is very well known yet it is a bit of a ghost. You will be simply told by everyone, including the Tourist Office, to catch the YELLOW BUS.

The yellow buses in Valencia are those that go out of the city, as opposed to the red buses inside the city. The yellow bus you want will have "Perello" as the final destination on its front. However, considering this is Spain, it may well have "Valencia" because the driver has forgotten to change it from the return trip.

You will usually be sent to catch it near the train station. However, there are 4 stops of this bus before it leaves the city and if you are staying in Av. del Puerto or Av. Francia, you may well opt for the last two.

Making Sure

To make sure it is the right bus stop both on the way there and on the return trip you should check the Herca sign on the stop (the image at the top of this page). Herca is the company that runs the bus.

The Route

If you can speak Spanish ask the driver to let you know when you get to:

Camping Coll Vert - for Pinedo beach. You will be dropped off on a roundabout. Backtrack a few metres and turn left towards the sea. That road will take you to the nudist part of the Pinedo beach.

El Saler - for El Saler beach. You will be dropped off in the El Saler town centre. The beach is clearly signposted from there - a few minute walk. During the peak months of July and August the bus will make an extra stop at the beach itself.

Mirador de Albufera - for La Devesa. You will be dropped off at the observation point on the Albufera lake. From here follow our directions.

If you can't speak Spanish and have to rely on the landmarks only, here is the breakdown. The map only shows the stops to get off at since you shouldn't rely on counting the stops as the bus may not stop at all of them if there is noone to pick up there.

Once the bus crosses the Turia river (the real one, not the gardens) and gets on the highway, you will be out of Valencia. It will then turn into a town - this is Pinedo. Don't get off here - this is far from the Pinedo beach. Instead stay on the bus until it goes through two roundabouts. Once you see the third one approaching, press the button. You will be dropped off just passed that roundabout, by the entrance to a camping ground Camping Coll Vert. Backtrack a few metres and turn left towards the sea. That road will take you to the nudist part of the Pinedo beach.

At this point - around 20-25 min bus trip from Valencia centre.

For the El Saler stay on until, in just a few minutes and after one more stop at the 4th roundabout, the bus enters the El Saler town. The built-up landscape will be obvious and quite a few people will get off here. You will be dropped off in the El Saler town centre. The beach is clearly signposted from there - a few minute walk. During the peak months of July and August the bus will make an extra stop at the beach itself.

At this point - around 25-30 min bus trip from Valencia centre.

To carry on to La Devesa stay on the bus. It may or may not turn to the El Saler beach (depending on whether you are travelling during July / August. Either way, once the bus comes out of El Saler it will carry on along a straight stretch of single carriageway, with a forest on your left and fields / water reservoirs on your right. At some point it will turn into a road on the left, through a small settlement called Les Gavines, to make a short loop by the Hotel Sidi Saler. It usually makes two stops there before coming back to the same carriageway with the water on the right. As soon as you se the water (Albufera Lake) you press the button. In a couple hundred metres the bus will drop you off at an observation platform of Albufera (called El Mirador de Albufera). From here follow our directions.

At this point - around 35 - 40 min bus trip from Valencia centre.

Price.

Fixed price 1.20€ one way in either direction for any of the stops.

Timetable

The YELLOW BUS goes every day from 7am to 9pm, hourly. It leaves Valencia by the Train Station at 00 every hour, it also leaves Perello (return journey) at 00 every hour. This means that the bus passes El Saler and la Devesa roughly at 30 min past every hour. This is important to note for the return.

During the peak months of July and August the yellow bus usually goes every half an hour. Check with the Tourist Office to confirm.
