QArt - a quirky gay bar with a bizarre party on weekends. More for the older guys and has been called somewhat sleazy.

Slavia - a very typically Valencian, this is a mainstream spot for the 30-smth weekenders who dress smart-ish and behave themselves while listening to Spanish pop.

Trombone - a quiet bar lost in the backstreets, with the usual quirky selection of Carmen regulars.

Cafe Madrid - the old Veteran of Valencian nightlife and the birthplace of the Agua de Valencia, it still offers a full-on night the traditional Valencian way.

Cafe Lisboa - a famous alternative night cafe to hang out for a chat. Not much else going on.

Pinball - a tiny but explosive and super-funky little disco-bar / club with a happy crowd going wild to the sounds of electro-retro. Original music and great vibes. Absolutely packed.

Cafe Glace - an underground after-hours venue for truly hardcore clubbers - opens at 8am till lunch. House, trance.

ADN Pub - a very happy and energetic disco-bar with tasteful commercial house and pop for the LGB-friendly crowd.

L'Ermita - one of those deep underground caves for the truly alternative Carmen. A smoky den packed with all kinds of aborigen Carmen Freedom Fighters and alternative foreigners. This is real Carmen pubbing.

Social 44 - From the onwers of Picadilly and Mogambo, this space is open till 4 am and you can enjoy some more underground music, mainly electronica.

The Lounge - a cosy Irish pub very well known for being a foreigner's second home and a meeting point for the cosmopolitan Valencia.

La Flaca - one of the few typically Valencian bars in Carmen (not the strongest side of this area) - very packed and very local, i.e. Spanish music only.

Finnegan's - a Spanish Irish pub on the main tourist drag, mainly attracting a more upmarket, slightly stiff local clientele and a few random Brits.

Disco City Brought to you by the makers of Radio City, this is probably the most popular late night Carmen club for all the same reasons - great people, great atmosphere and a cut above the ordinary music

Cafe La Seu - a classy, lively, arty night cafe, pretty much 100% gay of all ages.

Calcutta - a small night-club (a late night bar really) to keep drinking until 7am amongst commercial sounds and an eclectic crowd.

Cafe de las Horas - a curious place decorated like a baroque salon and serving lots of exotic teas and cocktails. Plays classical music by day and a more cheeky soundtrack by night to appease its mainly gay clientele.

Gheko Pub - one of the better mainstream disco-bars in Carmen, lavishly decorated on an exotic theme, full of pretty people dancing to creative commercial house.

Cafe Bahiano - a bar decorated to a Brazilian theme and serving Brazilian cocktails. This is where the theme ends - apart from that it is a pretty standard chill-out bar full of the Spaniards, like any other. Although they have recently been trying to hype the theme up - samba lessons on Wed at 21.30

Las Borjia - a classy, chic tea-shop with a lavish Arabic decor, serving one of the best selections of exotic teas and cocktails to an upmarket clientele.

Cafe Negrito - a legendary bohemian night-cafe, popular any night of the week for a totally eclectic mingle with people from all walks of life.

Sherlock Holmes - a passion for an English pub. Now with a new owner who attends to every detail and puts on a dynamic programme of pub events.

Picapiedra - another trench of the Carmen National Front. A minimalist , rustic two-storey pub, guarded by a dinosaur and hosting an alernative Carmen crowd.

Fox Congo - a very mainstream trendy disco-bar with commercial house for the mixed-age fashionable crowd. Very busy.

Johny Maracas - a mainstream disco-bar with a tropical decor and fully latino soundtrack. A mixture of mixed age easy-going Spanish weekenders and Valencian Latin Americans.

St Jaime - a cafe with such a picturesque and atmospheric terrace that many choose to have a beer here in the evening as well.

Cafe Infanta - a luxurious underground crypt with the 40s-50s theme, full of antiques. It gives a typical Valencian night out, with a lot of more mature, 100% local, mainstream public and mainly Spanish pop.

Cafe Bolseria - perhaps the busiest and most popular mainstream venue in Carmen, giving more of an R&B vibe to the trendy, fashionale crowd.

New Orlean's - a very warm welcome in this chilled-out jazzy night cafe. Cosmopolitan and very friendly. Also a great place for a day snack.

Murrayfield - a black two-storey Irish Pub with a rock soundtrack. Not as cosmopolitan as the Irish Bars normally go, very much a student Spanish vibe.

Vinicius - a mostly mainstream disco-bar that gets the traffic after 2am. Small and fairly standard, normal pop.

Radio City - probably the most famous and popular with the foreigners in Valencia, this is a vibrant cosmopolitan place with exceptionally good music (kinda pop but better and more funky) and a very tolerant vibe. Slightly on the alternative side.

Marrasquin - a small trendy bar with a mixed-age fashionable crowd and commercial house.

Venial - a late gay night-club open until 7am. fairly large, busy, very lively. Commercial house.

Trapezius - a mainly gay chill-out bar with intimate lighting and a mellow vibe.

Immortal - goth dungeon covered in graffitti and medieval themes. Huge drinks, goth / metal soundtrack and a very young goth crowd.

Christopher Lee - probably the best chill-out in Carmen, themed with 1940s-60s, both in decor and soundtrack. Intimate, comfy, unpretentious and great cocktails.

Turat - it is just a bar for a beer and it attracts quite a few people. Yet, quite charismatic, and the atmosphere is verty social.

Turmix - a very popular, packed to the top rock bar open until late. Young, studenty, easy-going rock crowd, all kinds of rock music and an occasional electro night.

Corona - a mainstream mini-club with pop, R&B, commercial dance and a trendy crowd. Stunningly decorated, easy-going and welcoming.

Frankenstein - an anarchic, quite large underground rock bar with rare sounds, lively alternative crowd, loose rules and mayhem in the air.

Jimmy Glass - a genuine jazz basement with authentic intimate atmosphere, a bohemian following and live jazz every other Tuesday.

Blues Bar - it doesn't actually play a lot of blues. A fairly uneventful alternative chill-out bar.

Bigornia - the depth of Carmen's alternative scene. A small place with a mixture of alternative characters, mainly young, and all kinds of underground music from rock to hip-hop and trance.

Cafe Museu - a small, cosy bohemian night-cafe for a relaxed drink.

Cafe Oasis - an ultra-bohemian and ultra-alternative cosmopolitan hangout for strange encounters in another world created by the owner.

Teteria Tisana - a darkly lit alternative catacomb decorated with ethnic themes, playing all kinds of strange music and attracting a wide spectrum of Carmen characters. Another world.

La Flama - a lively alternative rock bar open till 4am. Very welcoming, energetic, quite popular with foreigners and taking your music requests.

La Claca - a international lively and easy-going bohemian space, quite popular with ex-pats and cosmopolitan locals. Usually pop-rock. Also a programme of cultural events, such as flaminco, thatre and film.

Cafe Madrid - the legendary birthplace of Agua de Valencia, offering a perfected by centuries typical Valencian night out with all the flair and glamour.

Mata Hari - an atmospheric luxurious tea shop offering a velvet intimate ambience for savouring exotic teas.

Cafetin - a small arty cafe with a fantastic atmospheric terrasa during the day.

Cola Caos - a truly arty place, constantly imagining new twists in its decor. More mature, cultured, sophisticated bohemian clientele. Slick and jazzy.

John Silver - a rustic hangout for the pirates of Carmen. Dingy, dark-mooded and with a history-spanning collection of rock, just like any pirate hangout should be. Popular with the alternative types.

Cafe Tertuja - a three story bar for a beer with friends at your own table. Not much else going on. Eclectic atmosphere.

La Comedia - a cosy bar popular with more mature locals.

Siglos Cafe - a chic and posh high ceiling bar with a baroque theme to it. Gets filled with the mainstream, trendy weekenders of status ambitions.

Chill Out - a space for a real chill. Purple haze lighting, lots of healthy drinks, relaxing soundtrack and cutions on the floor - drink horizontally! Open on Sun morning when you come out of nightclubs.

Casa Matilda - a simple basement bar popular with the very young alternative crowd of Carmen

Blou - a classy trendy lounge with commercial dance tunes for the fashionable mixed age crowd. More easy-going than most trendy places in Carmen.

Bodeguita Cavallers - this is more of a tiny tapas bar but it gets totally quirky at night with a very special bohemian vibe and on occasions even scorching flamenco / jazz jams. One of the most authentic Carmen personalities.
